Mountain Dew

Mountain Dew (Spirit)

On 30th April 2008 I was lucky to purchase Mountain Dew (Spirit). Shortly after she arrived I took her to Ballyknowe Prince RID in Scotland and she went straight in foal. On 24th April 2009 she had a stunning colt foal Woodclose Royale (Flynn). With Flynn at foot I put Spirit forward for her Select Hornby Premium which she obtained with flying colours at the ripe old age of 18yrs. Spirit is now in foal to Mourne Mountain Star RID due the end of May 2010.

Storm on her debut of the season with her colt foal at foot by Silver Jasper was first in the small mare class.

Bella on her second outing of the season won her yearling class in the NFU Mutual Youngstock Challenge on 15th September 2007 at the National Breed Show. On the following day Sunday 16th she won the yearling filly youngstock class and went on to take the Female Youngstock Championship. My thanks to Anne Beattie who as usual did a professional job of showing her. Bella now has a wonderful new home in County Donegal Ireland where she is very much appreciated, and will receive the best of care.

In 2006 I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to loan Maplehayes Martini to breed a couple of foals. Martini, a total outcross, is out of the Telstar mare Farranfore Jenny by Cork Arthur. I bred her to Anne Beattie's lovely outcross stallion Ballyknowe Prince (stable name Chancer) and much to Ann's disappointment produced a stunning filly foal Woodclose Bianco which will be retained. Martini's owners have very kindly agreed to let Anne take Martini to try and breed a colt to take over from Chancer who will be a grand 23 years of age in 2008. Bianco is shortly being weaned and updates on her progress will be included on this site. Maplehayes Martini was awarded her first Hornby Premium in September 2007.

Sadly Maplehayes Martini Bianco's dam was put down at the beginning of 2008 having had a fatal bout of colic. Later in the year Bianco's sire Ballyknowe Prince, after a kick from a mare, was also put down.

Ballyknowe Prince

Ballyknowe Prince stable name Chancer was a horse full of character. He ruled the roost up at Anne Beatties always allowed to roam the yard with his special field adjoining. He was a total outcross but due to his locality did not always attract many RID mares until his later years. All his stock had wonderful temperaments with that look at me factor and a love of life. They are very intelligent having a love of water, inquisitive nature and very brave. Anne and Chancer had a lovely rapor he understood her every word and it was a joy to see them work together.

Woodclose Bianco

This now makes Bianco even more special to me especially being a total outcross. Being an end of May foal she took sometime to furnish so only attended a couple of shows late in the season. At the North West show she aquired her first red rosette and two weeks later at Moorgreen Show, was 1st again in a mixed age youngstock class and ended up Reserve Champion. At the breed show in Lincoln she was a very creditable 2nd in the yearling filly class.
